Accountants and bookkeepers
For practices onboarding individuals, sole traders and limited companies. AMLCode is designed to bring identity evidence, screening and relevant business information into a connected client case.
A new limited company appoints your practice. Connect the company record with the person giving instructions and the relevant beneficial owners, then review the evidence alongside the engagement.
AML checks for accountants and bookkeepersTax advisers
For firms handling personal tax and corporate tax engagements. Start with the legal customer and the service requested, then organise the identity and screening evidence around that relationship.
An individual contacts you on behalf of a business. Establish who your client is and the individual’s role before requesting evidence. Screening supports the case; the purpose of the engagement still needs your assessment.
AML checks for tax advisersCompany service providers
For firms providing company formation, registered office and related company services. AMLCode’s company workflow connects the business with its representatives and relevant beneficial ownership information.
A client requests company services through a representative. Bring the company identity, the representative’s authority and the people behind the business into the same review. Complex ownership can require additional evidence.
AML checks for company service providersIs it a fit for your firm?
The workflow is intended for firms currently collecting documents manually or bringing together results from separate services. It is organised around a client case: invite the client, collect the relevant evidence and review the connected checks.
- If you handle onboarding yourself
- Follow one consistent journey from invitation to review.
- If colleagues share the work
- Use a connected report to make the handover easier to follow.
Your firm chooses the scope and makes the acceptance decision. Unclear ownership, potential matches and missing evidence still need attention.

The services you provide determine whether you fall within the UK Money Laundering Regulations, together with any applicable exemptions. HMRC’s accountancy guidance covers bookkeeping and tax services as well as accountancy. Relevant firms may be supervised by HMRC or a professional body.
HMRC: accountancy and tax supervisionCompany service providers have their own scope and registration guidance. Check it against the services your business offers. Using AML software does not itself register your firm for supervision.
HMRC: trust or company service providersAMLCode supports the client-check workflow described on this site. Your firm’s wider procedures, risk assessment and ongoing responsibilities remain part of its own compliance process.

Is AMLCode only for accountants?
No. The initial focus also includes bookkeepers, tax advisers and company service providers.
Can a sole practitioner use this approach?
Yes. The workflow is designed for smaller firms as well as growing teams. One person can manage the client case from invitation through to the firm’s review.
What if we provide several of these services?
Start with the customer and engagement, rather than choosing checks solely from a sector label. A practice providing both accountancy and company services should assess the requirements relevant to each activity.
Does AMLCode cover every regulated sector?
This site describes the initial focus on accountancy, tax and company services. It does not establish suitability for every regulated activity, complex trust structure or specialist financial-services workflow.
